No matter what you research or try to sign up for in life, you’ll probably notice that there’s always controversy or rumors that spread around that particular topic. I know it’s always hard to find the truth but I must assure that certain people know what they’re talking about whether you want to believe it or not. I’m going to show you today some of the common myths that are usually applied to student credit cards.
You need to have a credit history
This is the biggest lie on the face of the planet when it comes to credit cards. The purpose of a student credit card is to allow you to build up your credit score and credit. Everyone has to start somewhere when it comes to credit and the best place to start is a student credit card. A lot of people think they need to start with a particular card when they start building their credit. This is completely un-true. If you don’t have any credit at all, a credit card designed solely for students is probably your best bet. It never hurts to try; the worst thing that’s going to happen is a rejection letter.
First time credit cards are ridiculous
A lot of people think that when they apply for their first credit card, they are going to be attacked with awful rates, no rewards, and everything else bad under the sun. This is so far from the truth. Believe it or not, most credit cards that is for first timers such as a college student card are as good as a regular credit card. Most offer rewards and many other similar things in that realm. The only difference is that you’ll find that the interest rate is going to be slightly higher and your credit limit will also be lower than an average user. This of course, over time can be improved significantly.
The selection is next to nothing
People love to believe that credit card companies don’t’ like to cater to first time appliers. They have the assumption that these companies don’t want them to sign up so they offer next to nothing when it comes to cards. When it comes to a search, there are as many cards for a student as there are for a person looking for a gas back rewards card. You’ll be slightly surprised on how many cards there truly are on the market.
As I mentioned above, there are myths that are associated with everything and I tried to point out the top three that I tend to hear a lot while doing research. If you don’t want to believe what I’m writing, that’s fine but if you do a quick glance online, you should be able to believe my points quite quickly. As long as you search hard, the results are right in front of your nose and there is most likely a credit card out there that will suit your needs. Just remember to spend responsibly and your credit will become the greatest around.
